Red-E Runner
A downloadable game
Introduction
In a dystopian cyberpunk world, Project Speedy-Stick is a thrilling and fast-paced infinite runner featuring Red-E, the victim of the illegal human experiments of Ranch & Dip Laboratories. As Red-E runs for his freedom, he must parkour through the futuristic city of Mat-5-14 with jetpack, and skinny legs to escape the grasp of R&D Labs and their Head Doctor, Dr. M-Tam
Instructions
In Red-E Runner, the man must run as far away as possible from the evil scientists who work in R&D Labs. In his path, obstacles like AC units, water towers, parakeets, etc., are used to prevent Red-E from escaping and running away further. If the man gets trapped by these obstacles, then he gets caught, and the game is over.

- If you are hit by a shot or run into another obstacle during this phase, the game is over.
- Survive the helicopter phase, and your second chance will reset, allowing you another opportunity if you collide again later in the game.
Scoring

- Points are earned at a regular rate, but while the jetpack powerup is active, you earn triple points.
Post-Mortem
What Went Right
- Original Artwork
- The team successfully created and customized all the in-game artwork except for the background, showcasing our creativity and attention to detail.
- Strong Team Collaboration
- Everyone contributed to their roles effectively and showed up consistently for team meetings, which helped maintain momentum throughout the project.
- Communication was seamless, allowing us to resolve issues quickly and keep the project on track.
- Passion for Game Development
- The team’s enthusiasm for game development was evident, and this passion fueled our commitment to delivering a high-quality game.
What Went Wrong
- Beginner’s Learning Curve with GameMaker
- As first-time users of GameMaker, the team faced a steep learning curve, which initially slowed progress as we familiarized ourselves with the platform.
- Scope Limitations
- While we had ambitious plans, we couldn’t implement all the features we envisioned due to time constraints and technical challenges.
- Endless Runner Implementation Difficulties
- Figuring out how to properly design and implement the endless runner mechanics proved challenging, requiring extra research and trial-and-error
Major Changes
1. At first we had an idea for implementing a grappling hook but that idea got scrapped and we stuck to the idea of the jetpack instead.
2. We were trying to implement pits but that idea was scrapped as the game proved challenging enough as it was.
